Dr. Bill and Nancy Lascheid

In 1998 the Neighborhood Health Clinic was an idea conceived in the Lascheid’s kitchen- just two short months after Dr. Bill and Nancy Lascheid retired from their full-time Naples dermatology practice. The concept of a medical clinic for the working poor gained momentum and attracted supporters. With shared enthusiasm of friends and help from professionals and volunteers in the community, the Clinic was able to open its doors in April 1999.

The Original Clinic

The Clinic’s first medical location was space donated by NCH Healthcare System in the now-demolished Grand Central Station commercial complex on Goodlette-Frank Road. A generous contributor donated funding for the construction of a new building and in 2003 the Clinic moved into its current location at 121 Goodlette Road North – a state-of-the-art medical facility -mortgage free. The continuing generosity of donors and this community has allowed the Clinic to flourish.

In the Clinic’s early days, handbills were posted at laundromats, gas stations, churches and similar locations as ways to reach out to the community for patients. “Now they know. It is word-of-mouth,” stated Dr. Lascheid.

Current State-of-the-Art Facility

According to Dr. Paul Jones, the base of working poor in Collier County appears to be expanding. Dr. Jones is a physician in Naples and a member of the Clinic’s founding committee. Along with his wife, R.N. Susan Jones, he continues to volunteer at the Neighborhood Health Clinic. “I see greater demand on the Clinic,” says Dr. Jones.

With the ongoing support of more than 700 volunteers from doctors and nurses to dentists and dental hygienists to non-medical and office help, the Neighborhood Health Clinic is able to deliver quality medical care to low income, working but uninsured Collier County adults.
