It is with great sadness that we inform you that Clinic co-founder Dr. William Lascheid passed away Friday, September 19th in the afternoon with his wife Nancy, daughter Leslie and sister-in-law Suann by his side.
William P. Lascheid, M.D., born June 16, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio, was raised in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one daughter. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, his sister Mitzi (Ralph), three sons, Fred (Lynne), Peter (Beth), Chuck (Elizabeth), two daughters, Leslie (Steve), Mary (Tony) and eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Suann and Tim Hayes, Bill’s sister-in-law and brother-in-law have had a special place in his heart and life. His daughter, Leslie, has brought him great pride and comfort. Dr. George Ferguson continued to be his physician and trusted friend.
Bill graduated from Franklin and Marshall College and was the youngest graduate of The University of Pittsburgh Medical School. He was a resident in both Family Medicine and Dermatology at Case Western University and The Cleveland Clinic. He was Assistant Professor of Dermatology at The University of Pittsburgh Medical School. He practiced medicine and dermatology in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Naples, Florida.
Bill served his country in the Navy and Marine Corps for nine years and was a decorated veteran. He served as a Battalion Surgeon for Medical Company (MASH Unit) on the front lines during the Korean War.
Bill was an accomplished golfer having played many rounds with Arnold Palmer and locally with his buddy, Dr. Mark Moots. He loved to sing, write limericks, play the ukulele and was a dedicated Steeler Fan. He entertained at the Physicians’ Talent show at the Sugden Theatre on several occasions.
Most of all Bill loved practicing medicine. He served on the staff of The Naples Community Hospital for over twenty years. He was Chief of the Department of Medicine for two years and was the President of the Collier County Medical Society.
Bill had a vision which after retirement in 1999 became his mission. He and his wife, Nancy, co-founded The Neighborhood Health Clinic. The Clinic is a medical home for thousands of low-income uninsured workers in the area. The NHC has received numerous State and National Awards and Presidential Recognition for its innovation, success and compassion. Bill was named by former President George H Bush as a Point of Light awardee.
A service will be held at 5:00pm on Saturday, September 27th at Moorings Presbyterian Church (791 Harbour Drive). The family suggests in lieu of flowers contributions to the Neighborhood Health Clinic or the William P. Lascheid MD Endowment for the Clinic 121 Goodlette Road. Naples, FL 34102.
