A Letter from the Chairman

Dear Friends,

Thank you for supporting the Neighborhood Health Clinic.  As we start our 14th year, let us take this opportunity to look at where the journey has taken us.

  • The first night of Clinic, April12, 1999, eight patients were treated.
  • Today there are more than 6,000 patient visits annually.
  • The magnitude and severity of chronic illnesses and diseases that plague our patients mirrors what is seen throughout our nation.
  • Our medication room fills prescriptions during every clinic session at a retail value of more than $300,000 per month. Although many prescription medications are provided by pharmaceutical companies, it is increasingly more challenging acquiring donated medicines.
  • Education, specialty clinics, and research programs established to enhance the quality of life for our patients continue to grow.

Guild for NHC “Ask the Doctors” Luncheon

Questions ranged from vitamin usage to Healthcare Reform to the value of organic foods when the Guild for the Neighborhood Health Clinic held their first “Ask the Doctors” luncheon. Dr. George Ferguson and Dr. Paul Jones answered questions from the audience and talked about why they volunteer at the Neighborhood Health Clinic. The event venue was perfect with guests enjoying a beautiful view at the Naples Yacht Club while dining on poached salmon.

The mission of the Guild is to raise friends and funds to support Neighborhood Health Clinic (NHC) patient services. NHC provides quality healthcare for low income, working but uninsured Collier County adults using a volunteer professional staff and private philanthropy.

According to Susan Jones, Guild event chair, “The Affordable Care Act, while beneficial for many Americans, will still leave millions of people … Read more...

Nancy Lascheid – 2013 Bella Spirit Award Recipient

According to Sharon Hood, è Bella founder and publisher, “With so many fabulous women in the area, it was hard to choose just one for è Bella’s inaugural Bella Spirit Award. So we asked readers to nominate dynamic women they felt best exemplified è Bella’s charter to inspire and empower, connect the community and make a real difference. We asked for nominees who illustrate the positivism and power of women as a dynamic force.

There is no doubt that Nancy Lascheid does all that and more. At a time in life when Lascheid and her husband, Dr. Bill Lascheid, had earned the right to relax, they instead devised a plan that would ultimately become the Neighborhood Health Clinic. In 1999, the Clinic began serving a local population desperately in need of health care.

Welcome Jo Ward

I see my new role at the Neighborhood Health Clinic as an integral part of the nursing team. I will be present in the clinic arena during patient care hours to manage the flow of traffic and be at the beck and call of volunteer nurses and physicians. Additionally, my work will involve interacting with social workers and laboratory staff.

I will be participating with the medical team to enhance patient education programs, ramp up work on research projects, sit on committees for pharmacology review and maintain the patient advocate role that is close to my heart.

I welcome these challenges and am proud to be a member of such a wonderful team.
