The Guild, founded this season to raise friends and funds for the Neighborhood Health Clinic, has funded its first project. At the February Guild meeting, members unanimously voted to approve $3,000 to purchase Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (L.E.E.P.) equipment and supplies.
L.E.E.P. is typically performed when an annual Pap smear indicates the presence of abnormal cervical cells. Guild members understand the importance of early detection and treatment. They did not want Neighborhood Health Clinic patients to wait for a check presentation at the April luncheon to order the L.E.E.P. equipment and supplies. Without hesitation Chris Zantop and Cris Ryker made a motion to immediately issue the $3,000. The equipment was ordered and is currently being utilized at the Clinic.
The procedure uses a painless electrical current to quickly remove affected cervical tissue. “It has replaced in-hospital procedures with general anesthesia which were much more invasive. “L.E.E.P. is very successful with little pain and very little time lost from work,” according to Dr. Carmine Errico, volunteer gynecologist at the Neighborhood Health Clinic.
The Guild Committee hosts meetings during season between October and April with holds an annual fundraising event. An “End of Season Luncheon” is scheduled for April 20th held at the Naples Yacht Club. At the luncheon, Guild members anticipate donating over $8,000 this year to the Neighborhood Health Clinic
“The Guild has just exceeded its expectations. Starting with only two members in October, it is now has 35 active members. To be able to provide $3,000 for much-needed woman’s health so soon after creating the group is just amazing” says Co-Founder, Joy Dillon.
