Meet Our Patients

The Neighborhood Health Clinic provides quality medical care to low-income, working but uninsured adult residents of Collier County.  Here  are just a few stories of hope from our patients.

Marvin’s Story

Marvin has lived in Collier County most of his life and works as a line cook at a local seafood restaurant. Due to the downturn in the economy, he’s only working 20-24 hours a week—he used to work 60 hours per week.

He was referred to the Clinic by a coworker, found out he had diabetes and has been treated there ever since. In addition to treatment, the Clinic has taught him about making better diet and lifestyle choices.

Larry’s Story

Larry had to leave his secure job as a field supervisor at a tile company to take care of his disabled son in another state. When he returned to Naples the downturn in the economy, made it hard for Larry to find work. He now does handyman jobs. When he became ill he was concerned about being a burden on the community. Larry was ready to give up before he found the Clinic. He appreciates receiving the medical care and compassion the Clinic gave him and now feels connected to the community in a way he never had before.

Andrew’s Story

When Andrew first came to the Clinic he was experiencing multiple medical problems that were being negatively influenced by his dental infections. Unfortunately to control his health issues it was necessary to remove all of his teeth. Andrew had been living at St. Matthew’s House, the local homeless shelter. They referred him to the Clinic. The Clinic’s dental and medical team worked together to restore his dental health and control his other medical issues. He now is able to work full time detailing yachts at a local yacht club.

Claudia’s Story

Claudia was born in Mexico and was a self-employed housekeeper in the Naples area when she first came to the Neighborhood Health Clinic because of a recurring pain in her left breast. After extensive testing and consultations, Clinic doctors ordered a mammography and ultrasound. Within a few days Claudia’s worst fears were confirmed . . . her diagnosis was breast cancer. She had never been so afraid in all her life, not only for herself but for her children.

Claudia’s first concern was how she was going to care for her children. Would she have enough energy left after treatment to take care them? Claudia was also looking for someone to help her understand her diagnosis and help explain what chemotherapy and radiation treatment meant for her recovery.

Soon after Claudia’s diagnosis she met Ann,… Read more…
